We initial went down to PA HQ at 292 Vauxhall Bridge Road to investigate the possibility of changing air conditioning plant from electric to gas powered absorption chillers. This would free up electrical capacity to feed the every growing needs of the IT equipment. We found this solution to be not viable but worked with the client to develop a scheme for an up graded essential electrical installation.
This developed into a £800K D&B project. We worked as Principal Contractor to replace the generator, UPS system and main switchboard in a fully occupied building. Our works included construction of new plantrooms in the basement, including a new substation for EDF.
We produced multiple schematic drawing drawings to allow us to plan each stage of the project. This allowed us to control and communicate numerous shutdowns and changeovers on the site. The news never stops, so we had to work to very tight windows of opportunity between the last news broadcast and the first early morning commercial weather forecast.
It took 6 months to organise a road closure on the “Red Route” Vauxhall Bridge Road to allow us to use a large mobile crane to remove the old generator form the roof and replace it with a modern 900KVA set.
